On-line learning exercises will help you study, alone or with others, and on-line mini-quizzes for each unit will help you review and prepare you for the final exams. The main purpose of our Advanced Aromatherapy Practitioner Program - AR310  is to support you in becoming a heart-based, professional aromatherapist who can mindfully prepare a focused blend that is the most effective and uses the minimum amount of essential oils (We love our plants and planet!) . We guide you from starting as an inexperienced or a beginner aroma lover to becoming a confident practitioner who will be able to take care of yourself, your friends, your family, and clients in your office, in a hospital or hospice, or in a medical office or spa, wherever you are and in whatever you do.

Your aroma journey will include preparing mindful assessments of your clients so that you can identify the deeper causes of that stress and prepare individualized blends that will reduce the manifestations of that stress in your client. Aromatherapy is a natural technique designed to assist the body's natural ability to balance and maintain itself through the skilled use of essential oils. It is both an art and a science based on the interaction between the aromatherapist, the client and the essential oils, which all work together to enervate the client's innate, self-healing energy. Aromatherapy may be used as a preventative approach or as an additional support during various stages of illness or 'dis'-ease. As a holistic modality, aromatherapy can augment your over-all good health, well-being, beauty and vitality.

Essential oils are the volatile (quickly-evaporating) essences produced by aromatic plants through the process of photosynthesis. The constituents of a plant's oil (its essence) may be extracted from its flowers, leaves, grasses, bark, peels, roots, seeds, and/or resins, and some plants can produce more than one essential oil, depending on the part used.  Essential oils contain a tremendous amount of a plant's energy, and only a small quantity is needed for significant effects. In addition, we also work with hydrosols, which is another by-product of the essential oil distillation process. Hydrosols are also powerful but gentle water-based solutions that we may choose to use instead of or in addition to essential oils.

 

Both the essential oils and the hydrosols may be used in the specially-prepared blends we create for health-giving, meditative, restorative or relaxing purposes.  By assisting the body directly in balancing itself and immediately reducing the stress that causes more than 85% of all illnesses, all of the body systems are affected in a positive way. Because of their chemical, biological, and energetic properties, essential oils can be used on any of several levels -- physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. By learning about aromatherapy, you can learn to take care of yourself, your friends and family, and paying clients in a practice of your own, as part of a Complementary/Alternative Medicine (CAM) group, or for a spa.

 

One of the unique features of our course is that it includes a fully professional, fully observed Practice Clinic. Each clinic comes at the end of the foundations work, and incorporates everything that you have learned in order to work with a client.  On the day of the Clinic, you will receive a new 'client', you will perform a full assessment, you will make an Individualized Blend for that client, and you will complete the consultation (which includes sharing with your client your findings, the use of the blend, lifestyle suggestions, etc.).  After the Client leaves, the class will get together with the instructor and review the sessions.  By the end of the day, you should be all ready to see clients on your own.  Thirty case study meetings will build up your confidence and experience in working with clients when you are officially certified and can charge them.

Successful completion of this course will give you an advanced working knowledge of the safe use of aromatherapy as a professional practice or as an add-on in a related discipline such as nursing or massage therapy. In addition, you will become eligible to apply for membership in the Canadian Federation of Aromatherapy (and CAHP certification) or a similar organization in your province, state, or country as a Professional Member.
