Before Dying…Linking Life and Death Presents @BelArome

Based on the book of the same name by Atul Gawande, FRONTLINE follows renowned New Yorker writer and Boston surgeon Atul Gawande as he explores the relationships doctors have with patients who are nearing the end of life. In conjunction with Gawande's new book, Being Mortal, the film investigates the practice of caring for the dying, and shows how doctors -- himself included -- are often remarkably untrained, ill-suited and uncomfortable talking about chronic illness and death with their patients. The movie will be followed by a discussion!

The video screening will be followed by a discussion!  Coffee, tea, and treats are available for purchase.

AROMATHERAPY: INHALATIONS TO REDUCE YOUR STRESS & ANXIETY - Presentation & Demonstration

7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Fee: $25 includes refreshments & free inhaler to make & take home

Dr. Sheryl Beller-Kenner, Naturopath & Certified Aromatherapy Teacher

Most people understand that traumatic events can be very stressful, but many still do not recognize that even the small daily stresses of life have a powerful effect on the body and on mental and physical well-being. Prolonged stress also overworks the adrenal glands, initially making you feel constantly on edge and, ultimately, making you feel tired, sluggish, listless, and emotionally out of control. There is already much research demonstrating the power, safety and effectiveness of natural compounds for relieving stress and anxiety.

Fortunately, aromatherapy offers some of the most pleasant, natural ways to ease stress and anxiety. Aromatherapy works primarily through the nose but can also act through the lung and the skin. When inhaled, volatile aroma compounds from plants are capable of exerting immediate, direct-to-the-brain actions. Correctly used, aromatherapy inhalations are much safer than oral ingestion or topical application of herbal or drug substances because the active essential oil compounds are so small.

REFLEXOLOGY: WHAT SECRETS DO YOUR FEET REVEAL? Workshop

7:00 PM - 9:30 PM

Fee: $ 30.00

Dr. Sheryl Beller-Kenner, Naturopath & Certified Reflexology Teacher

Our feet are literally our support system, yet we rarely associate our feet with other areas of our body. In reflexology, an ancient, natural therapeutic technique, the main principle is that there are areas, called reflexes, in the feet, hands and ears, which correspond to every part, gland, & organ of the body. Palpation and pressure on these reflexes causes the various body parts to let go of excess stress, tension and congestion, thereby bringing the body into health-supporting balance.

If your reflexes are painful, your feet are telling you that something is happening in your body. In addition, the shape of your feet, their color, the skin, the nails, and any corns, callouses, scars, or markings in a particular place may indicate what’s going on in your body.  Some reflexologists believe that your feet also reveal aspects of your personality.

Want to learn what secrets your feet are sharing with the world? Want to get to know yourself better through your feet? Join us for this interactive, foot-revealing demonstration.Wear shoes and socks that are easily removed so that you can examine your own feet.   Please bring 2 small dish cloths, and a box of crayons, colored pencils, or colored markers.  All else will be provided.
